In case you missed it, the world of telecom expense management had a bit of a shake up yesterday. Virginia based Rivermine announced it had acquired New York's MBG. Telecom expense management is, quite frankly, one of the most unsexy business areas I can think of. That said, it is of vital importance to organizations large and small, especially when you look at it in the context of enterprise mobility management.
So why does this acquisition matter? Read on and you'll see.

Hello from the 48th floor of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. What a truly amazing view of the New York City skyline from this location. Today was an incredibly wonderful, albeit hectic day. While it was filled with both planned and unplanned meetings, I knew it was going to be a great day by the time I met with the participants of the opening keynote panel I was moderating at the Mobile Business Conference at Interop.

Hot off the press at 3am this morning, Verizon announced today that it is now offering both through Verizon Wireless and Verizon Business a new suite of mobility management services for wireless expense management, logistics, mobile device management, security and mobile application management. This is some pretty interesting news, but I wonder how successful this will ultimately be.

I have had the pleasure to speak to a lot of companies in the last few months that play in the market of mobility management. Most of these companies have some pretty compelling solutions that handle either device management or application management or expense management, but none so far handle the entire gamut of mobility management.

So what you all might not know about me is that back in the day, I was a pretty big fan of heavy metal. I'll even admit to the fact that I had a mullet. Hey, it was the 80s! Thankfully, there are no pictures (that I am aware of) of me with said mullet. For a long time he started his shows off by saying "Let the madness...begin." Check out (around 2:15) if you don't believe me. So how the heck does this have ANYTHING to do with enterprise mobility????

In case you didn't hear this, T-Mobile is set to announce tomorrow that it is following in the footsteps of AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and even Helio, in offering unlimited voice services for $99 per month. I think this is great news on multiple levels, including the further canabilization of the fixed line market....why pay $50/month for a landline and pay another $50 for a mobile phone? This is all great for the consumer, but I think there are even more exciting opportunities in terms of enterprise mobility around fixed mobile convergence.

2007 was a great year for enteprise mobility, as its adoption in the market place increased considerably over the last 12 months. What better time than January 2, the first business day of 2008, to make some predictions for what 2008 holds for enterprise mobility. Here are my five....along with some companies I think we should all keep our eyes on.

I just read the cover article in mobile enterprise magazine about outsourcing. My first thought was that it was nice to see other places, and frankly one I have such high respect for, increase the visibility of mobile outsourcing. My next reaction was that it only offered a sliver of what mobile outsourcing can be.
